All these is set to make the 15s rugby popular.
The three games every week was introduced to increase club
performance, commitment and above all to
allow fans to enjoy more action at different venues.
The season will also see the media participation by broadcasting
selected matches during the league phase, as well as the knockout stages.
Another development this season will see the top placed teams
play with newly formed clubs unlike previous seasons.
Many rugby enthusiasts are terming this season a warm welcome
and baptism for newcomers the Thousand Hills RFC, who was promoted to the top
division in December last year.
Remera Buffaloes RFC are hoping to defend the title once again! The week end games shown new challenge and
competition spirit between different clubs.
At UTEXRWA where Kigali
Sharks RFC hosted Lions de Fer, It was tight, a good game to watch. Kigali
Sharks was leading the first half by 3-0. This didn’t discourage the Lions who
came back in the second half and turned over everything, with a good hits by
Nikwigize Olivier who secured the first 5 points for his team and well
converted by Ishimwe J.D’amour who did it again when Umuhire Victorien scored
the second try. Kigali Sharks managed to get 3 more points by their good kicker
Hakizimana Didier to make it 6. Just before the end of the game Maendeleyo
Sixbert shown that the Lions where not easy to beat and scored the last try of
the day.The Lions secured their 3 points .The final Result was 28-6.
At Gatenga the Thousand
Hills RFC that hosted the Remera Buffaloes RFC, shown resistance to the very
experienced side of Buffaloes. The Buffaloes leaded the full game with the
great boot of Lucien Bikamba who just missed 2 of his 6 kicks. The young team
performed very well to defend their opponent. Isimbi Carlos was the outstanding
player of the Thousand Hills and helped the team to secure 9 points from his
penalty kicks. The Remera Buffaloes forwards seemed stronger and heavier
compare to the new comers that had instead quick backlines who are fast and so
flexible, this lead the team to some mistakes that the Buffaloes didn’t
tolerate and score their fast and second tries as well as one penalty try.
Players like Ngango Abdoul and Migisha Emmanuel of Buffaloes were the drive in
the forward and Habimana Heritie, Bigirimana Jacques, Iradukunda Ombeni where
the key players in the Thousand Hills side. The final score was 29-9 in the
favor of Buffaloes which also secured the 3 points of the first day of the
league!
The next games will see
Remera Buffaloes RFC hosting Kigali Sharks RFC, Lions de Fer will host the
Thousand Hills RFC and Kamonyi Puma RFC will host the Muhanga RFC.
