It has been quite a while without getting any rugby updates,
I know many of this blogs readers or followers were asking themselves:"what is going on in the Rwanda rugby and the league in particular?"
Before I personally answer this question, I would like to tell you how it went the last two weeks.
After the game that the Kigali Sharks played with Lion de fer,the team went to play the next Saturday with the Kamonyi based team called Puma,as for Lion de fer it was a real battle against Buffaloes.The buffaloes won the game with 24-0.But the Lion de fer officials as well as players were criticizing the referee for not being fair to both sides.
The Sharks game vs Puma was supposed to start at 3pm.
The problem that came when the Sharks were asking about the match officials, I mean at least 3 people,1 central referee and 2 touch judges.
There was no answer from the federation, until 2pm the Sharks technical director who is also a player Tharcisse Kamanda called the vice president and the coach of the team to host,Araire Alex,who was still sleeping,he asked him if we can cancel the game because it was getting late and there was no referee available.
Many of the players thought that the game was going to be canceled.
Then Puma coach who was in charge asked back Kamanda if he can find someone to ref the game.
Can you imagine that? How can the federation organize the league fixtures without thinking of the referees ?The answer could be that the rugby leaders just ignore things because there is no supervisions or reports they have to give,explanations to club representatives , the ministry of sport or simply they are disorganized and don't care about the progress in our country.
So they had to call Paul Boa who is actually working at green hills academy to come and help if his would be available.
For the people don't know this man ,is a rugby veteran who did try his best to help young players,starting from his students, he is a good man ,with a very good sens of huma and a social attitude.
He did coach the team at green hills, Gorillas in the league and many times was the vice manager or adviser for the national team.
BUT, it doesn't mean he is a good referee because of some knowledge of the game, NO ,I don't think so,because you know what is required to be a referee .He said yes and came to ref the game!
The Kigali Sharks did lost that game 14-7,like other teams,that is normal in sport.
I would like to point out what I think was not fair.
First ,the field was not good at all , not marked ,no touch judges,no time keeper no even some pads to the goal posts just to prevent injuries.
Also so many mistakes from the referee ,especially in decision making on what to call on the infringements, may be by the lack of knowing the new rugby roles or laws.
I understand him,because he was even not supposed to come.
After that game the Kigali Sharks played against UNR Grizzlies at Gitikinyoni play ground,it was the first game at that field.
The Final score was 42-7,those were the first points for the Sharks, but the National University team was the first to make to score.
So I think I am answering the question of many of you who wanted to know what was going on.
Rugby is a good game where everyone is equal,from officials to the youngest players.Rugby coaches respect the players they teach and the players respect them back and respect each other,they don't fight one another and after games or other events they have fun together as a family.
Rugby is a UNION,that's why you read or hear in many places the words RUGBY UNION, I am not here to explain the meaning of those words because you all know already.
We need your help, because we need the CHANGE and we do love the game, it is our passion!
The next post will be about how people in the federation can split the work to make quick progress of the rugby game,because we do not want to see in the future someone who could occupy almost 10 posts for ex: club president & coach player,vice president of the federation ,coach &team selector of the national team & player sometimes,referee and match official who does report after the game even if it was his team playing him playing as well etc... All these posts for one person!!

Rugby is a UNION,that's why you read or hear in many places the words RUGBY UNION, I am not here to explain the meaning of those words because you all know already.
