IT'S A RUGBY SEASON IN RWANDA

The National Senior men rugby season begins Saturday 20/12/2014 in Huye, Butare. With the UR Grizzlies hosting the Muhanga RFC. 

In the last year’s season regional league,the University of Rwanda based team was the champion after defeating Puma RFC and Muhanga RFC. The host lads are expected to compete for a spot to get to  the final round again after a successful performance  playing 7’s at the men’s club level.They finished best loosers in the Kigali Sharks 7s  behind Muhanga RFC, and Kigali Sharks RFC.

“I am looking forward to this upcoming season after a successful Regional league last year our players had playing in the Kigali Sharks 7’s under good Coaching  ," said Mudaheranwa J.Claude who brings a wealth of knowledge and knows how to win.”

Many of the UR Grizzlies top players from last year’s tournament have not yet graduated, and the Coach  is confident in his youthful side. The backs are led by sophomore and talented young fly-half who can create plays from anywhere on the field. In addition, the forwards are powerful players in the tackle, and should expect to gain noticeable meters with the ball in hand. 

Despite the progression of the young Grizzlies team, the Muhanga team remains cognizant of the tough competition at the senior level, “Teams including UR Grizzlies ,Puma RFC and the Kigali based and  well-coached teams are going to be tough, and our boys will have to be very focused on our goals in order to emerge victorious. The boys have been working hard for the last six month, and I am proud of their ability to compete at high levels, but we will have to work even harder to make sure we get back to that final matchup and win in this upcoming tournament.” Said Muhire Livingstone , the Muhanga RFC Coach.

Most of the teams return many of their star players from last year’s season including some new blood in the top level.

“Each year rugby is gaining more and more momentum, especially at the senior level. We are seeing various clubs organize tournaments with similar aim and the RRF decided that this would be once again a great opportunity to showcase the talent of the Rwanda rugby clubs,”  ARAIRE Alexander – RRF president concluded.
