THE JUNIOR TEAM PLAYER'S PROFILE "TUYISENGE Daniel"

Hi every one, the reason I am writing this post, is because I know that following a player's progress is really a big issue in rugby teams and the Union in Rwanda.
TUYISENGE D, smiling with the runners up trophy from Safaricom U19 tourney.
So I got this idea while i was having dinner with many of these young rugby players at home just after they were back from the Safaricom 7's.

Some said it a great idea because, the player will feel a bit respected and will be happy that other  can even know better about him,in the news, internet and else where.

T-DANNY, in Rugunga, during rugby training,he is showing some great passes!!!

  • FULL NAME : TUYISENGE Daniel
  • NICK NAME : T-DANNY
  •  AGE               : 18 Years
  • WEIGHT        : 65 kgs
  •  HEIGHT       :  1,65 m
  •  POSITION    :  Flanker
  •  FAVORITE PLAYER: A.Kayange
  •  FAVORITE FOOD : Ugali and meat
  •  BEST TIME IN RUGBY: Safaricom 7's
  •  WORSE TIME IN RUGBY: Missing to play some of the good games in the Safaricom U19 because of asking the coach why, they went out at night and drink, and stay sleeping while we have semi final games.
  • WISH & AIMS : I wish that one day Rugby  becomes like soccer or other sport in Rwanda,so that people ,will enjoy watching rugby on TV and at the Stadiums, just like other games. And my vision is to become a rugby SUPER STAR,in Rwanda and worldwide!!

For the first time, we will be writing about this young player who was recently selected in the team that represented Rwanda in Kenya and was also selected before by his school,to represent Rwanda again in the East Africa inter schools tournament in Burundi in August this year.

TUYISENGE Daniel aka T-DANNY, lives in Gikondo/ Kigali, he lives with his mother and has one brother, when I was interviewing him ,he said that his brother was the one that inspired him and  taught him some rugby basics, he also said that he remembers when I first ask him to go and help us defending while I was coaching the other young boys ,including his brother,he said :" that was my first to play rugby with others and from then, I think I will never stop", it was in 2008.
In just 4 years, this young man, full of passion and self confidence, came out with some brilliant skills, passes, runs, hits and he is really aggressive when is in the field.
He is now playing for his school, for the Kigali Sharks Rugby club and for the Junior national team.

Without doubt, this player will be among one of the key players for his club and our country. Just keep the eye on him,you will see how brilliant he can be!

THE RWANDA RUGBY JUNIOR TEAM.

After a long journey from Nairobi to Kigali in the bus, the Rwanda rugby junior team were finally back in town on Monday, they were really exhausted because they did not have time to rest for a while after a WONDERFUL performance at the Safaricom U19 tournament where they lost against Western in the final but brought back the RUNNERS UP trophy for the first time!!! Much respect to the young boys, you deserve it!!.

Because most of the players are students and did spend sometimes without being at school, so they had to go back to school on Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Thursday, they were informed that the Sport Minister Mr Protais Mitari, wanted to meet them and congratulate them for their effort and for well representing their country.
It was a great day for them as well as for their elders, the Minister said that they did a great job and did more than what was enough, he also mentioned that the TROPHY is a symbol of success so that the rugby teams can use to succeed and/or attract sponsors and partners of Rwanda rugby.
He also said that if they need any HELP FROM THE MINISTRY,they are always welcome because they've shown that they can get further and further!
THE RWANDA RUGBY JUNIOR TEAM meeting H.MINISTER OF SPORT MITALI Protais
The president of the federation in his speech, he did congratulate the players and  explained to the Minister as a Rugby representative, about the Safaricom rugby tournament and  about our teams performance and results.

After the meeting with the Minister, the players and rugby officials had dinner together at CAR WASH.
I had a chance to speak with junior players, what the captain and others said mainly was the problems they faced and how they think the federation can help them to be a strong team.
They said first, we need a coach, who loves the game , who has the passion and knows new roles and regulations of` the game of rugby.
Second; we need support from the federation by providing the basics we need.not salaries because we are all aware of the financial status of the federation.
Finally,we need to be respected like the Rwanda players, for example: how can you spend a week without studying, away from your country and family,it is not simple, then play like 3 to 4 games in two consecutive days and come back by bus, we you get here you go to school, and after you are told to come meet the Minister,in our mind we thought , there are some good news and prizes.
After the dinner we were given 1000 frw, not even enough to bring some back to school, imagine that? Some players are injured and are our key players, but no one talked about it!
We know we were invited in another tourney in Uganda, but no one, from the coach to other officials who told us on the preparations because it will happen in two weeks.

How will we be a great team, when the federation is not well organized to prepare a team! we know we can do better but not on our own only.
Thank you

THE FINAL DAY @ THE SAFARICOM 7'S 2012

The FINAL is always the FINAL,the challenge between teams, no matter which cup you are competing     for,"it is the FINAL".
Our national team .the silver backs unfortunately did not win anything ,but players as well as officials did experience and learn about many things concerning rugby development in general.
The team lost in the  Bowl quarter final against Western Province (SA) 44-0.

Other results are:MAIN CUP SEMIS: Kenya Morans 17 Spain 0
SA EPD          24  Kenya Shujaa 7

The SA Elite players development won this year's Safaricom by defeating the host team wich is the Kenya Morans 17-14,it was tough though, the second kenyan team Shujaa came third after a win against Spain
The Samurai team took the plate, Western province team made for the bowl and Zambia, the shield.

It was really a great time at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, people were cool, fans were so entertaining, the media, the MCs ,Artists and all the people in and out the stadium were just amazing.
We thank the Kenya Rugby Union and all the sponsors to organize such a big event and we hope to do the same in our country "RWANDA" .Thank you all

DAY ONE AT THE 2012 SAFARICOM 7'S

For those who don't know what really is going on during the Safaricom 7's which is the premier rugby 7's tourney in Africa,so it attracts many teams from the region and other teams from all over the world.

Now you all understand that the Safaricom 7's is an entertaining event and for this year's edition,it is more and more fun because the organizer did invite some local artists to perform live and entertain people, including fans, players and officials at Nyayo stadium.

About the games , the Rwanda national senior team "SILVER BACKS" tried their best today ,but could not win any game because other teams were more and well prepared than our players as it seemed to many.Today's result for the silver backs are:

GRENOBLE 33 - 17 RWANDA
KENYA       40 - 7   RWANDA
UGANDA    35 - 0   RWANDA

The junior team did really impress people and did attract many fans because of their performance, yesterday the result shown that the junior team, can get to the final. The young boys did it and lost on the main cup final against WESTERN(ke) - 24 -5.

It is a good start by the junior team though and the senior team has to work harder and play many games in order to get on the same level with other teams in the tournament because we all know that; "PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT"!

The Rwanda SILVER BACKS ,ready to face strong teams

The pools and schedule for the 17th edition of the premier african rugby sevens "SAFARICOM 7'S"were announced on the 19th  September, and the Rwandan side will have to prove their talent  as well as all the skills to break through the other teams defense that seem to be also strong.

The Rwanda silver backs are in the pool B with the host Kenya,Uganda cranes which defeated them in last year's Safaricom 7's and the french side team Grenoble.
As you can also see, this pool is tough and this requires the Rwanda players to use  any occasion they get and score as many tries as they can . We hope to hear great result from the senior team.

And good news from Nairobi, are telling us that the Rwanda Junior team is really doing well in the the U19 Safaricom tournament, for now the team just lost to Nyanza by 14-7, and won against ;G6 Rift Valley 14-12, Central 14-0, Uganda 5-0, so far so good, the young stars are doing great ,and we also believe that they continue doing great in and outside the country like they've just shown it in Nairobi, we will also keep you updated of what is going on in the Safaricom 7's 2012.

THE RWANDA SILVER BACKS, AGAIN IN THE SAFARICOM 7'S

The Rwanda rugby teams  have been training for the preparation of this year's SAFARICOM 7's in Nairobi / Kenya.
The two teams, "Junior and Senior ", had two weeks preparations, where the Senior team was coached by Nsenga Gerald and Itanzi J Baptiste took the Juniors.
All the players look prepared and ready for the big day, especially the junior players because of their first trip representing their country,in the U20 tournament which will take place just before their elder defend their pride in the the big and entertaining tournament "the SAFARICOM 7'S"  ,so the young boys looked focused , were really fit and organised as well as disciplined during the last training session at APE Rugunga ground.

(from left to right: Moise (C),Serge,J.D'amour,Yannick,Kazungu and Donat)
They started a bit late ,but it was juniors that came earlier and started with some warm ups and ended up playing touch rugby and the senior players came after and joined them.
After playing like twenty minutes, the two teams did split players,so the juniors went on one side and the seniors on the other side.
It was touch rugby , just to cool down  and to avoid injuries on both sides at the last moment.
Players were showing what they are capable of on both sides , what was really interesting today is that the senior players were not coordinating very well, but for the other side, i mean the juniors, they were outstanding!!! they made me feel like, wooow , this is good rugby to watck, this is 7's and finally i was like : YES this is the FUTURE of Rugby in Rwanda,

I am saying this because i was there ,watching, they were co mmunicating, passing side stepping and all the moves, they did score more tries than their elders.
Senior players having a talk after practice
All the players were good and some on the senior side also, like Coco Cambara, Mana( new in the squad) ,Ignace ,the fastest player and Lucien Bikamba. And the bad news is that the scram half of the senior  team,Kevin Makmot won't be among others due to the sickness he has,we try to get more of this information and we will let you know.It is a big gap in the team because of his participation as a team leader and coordinator.

But we do hope that our two team will perform and well represent our country.

Rwanda Rugby officials; Alex Araire,Gerald Nsenga and Itanzi J.Baptiste
The players selected in the Junior team are: Moise,J.Paul,Serge,Tuyisenge,J.D'amour,Gerard,Donat,Bebe,Yannick,Didier,Jason and Drogba

The players selected in the senior team are:
Didier,Bebe,Lucien,Mana,Joe,Juvenal,Ignace,Coco,Olivier,Aime,Kamali,Benjamin and Barnabe.

GO SILVER BACKS GO, GO SILVER BACKS GO !!!! :) :) :) :) !!!!!!
